Sous does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data. There is no server, no account, and no analytics.

What we collect

Nothing. Sous has no backend. We cannot see your menus, your photos, your dietary preferences, or anything else about you, because none of it ever leaves your device.

Menu photos

Photos you take or choose are processed entirely on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device Vision and Apple Intelligence frameworks. They are not uploaded anywhere. Sous does not retain the original photo after analysis; it keeps only a small thumbnail, stored on your device, so you can recognise the scan later.

Your dietary profile

Your goal, dietary rules, allergies, spice tolerance and budget are stored on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, your saved restaurants, dishes and collections sync through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. That data is held in your iCloud, not ours — we have no access to it and no ability to read it.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Sous never sees your payment details, and we do not receive any personally identifying information about you from Apple. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Tracking and advertising

Sous contains no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and no tracking of any kind. We do not use the Advertising Identifier and we do not share data with anyone, because we do not have any of your data to share.

Children

Sous is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects no data from children either.

Nutrition information

Nutrition figures in Sous are estimates, derived from USDA FoodData Central reference foods matched to the wording of a menu. They are not measured values, restaurants do not publish nutrition for most dishes, and a kitchen's portion and recipe will differ. Sous does not provide medical or dietary advice. If you have an allergy or a medical condition, always confirm with the restaurant and your doctor.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
